Why the Bear is Stumpy-Tailed

A stop-motion project, directed by Emma Williams, from my final year at Leeds Arts University. This project was aimed at a younger audience and used felted puppets. I drew the storyboards for this, which featured a lot of character dialogue.

Above are the final boards for the film, made using Toonboom. Some of the facial expressions are lost between boards and final film as the animation method was changed during production. Originally the intention was to draw eyes and eyebrows on digitally after filming.

I approximated the set in Maya following the Director's specifications to help to help find shot compositions, but decided against using them as backdrops in my boards as the trees and bushes all looked very similar.

It was fun coming up with poses for the Bear to perform while waiting for the fish to bite, even if most were cut for time, or ended up being too complex for the puppet.
