Blueline Learning

Blueline Learning was a company I worked for on a 6 month contract. They were creating videos that could be used in the training of emergency services like Firefighters and the Police, and for those dealing with Cybercrime. Most of the content involved making short animated segments for use within longer live action videos, and on social media.

Because of the tight timeframe, there was an emphasis on making videos and assets that could loop to fill more time in a video with less work.

I got to create cute critter characters to represent computer viruses, including the worm and spyware in the videos above.

In small teams of video editors and animators we would make rough storyboard based on scripts we were assigned. Part of my role was to then  clean up those communal boards into something that could be used by the animators.

Something a little out of my comfort zone was designing backgrounds and assets that could be used by any of the teams animators. The challenge of this was of these videos was to keeping the backgrounds populated enough to be engaging, but simple enough that they would fit the animation style. I did manage to include some funny references into these assets however.

There were many things that were new ground for me, like making this looping background and glitching computer screen.

Another style of animation that Blueline used was this pencil-esque style. I would sketch these in Animate, then use layer masks to make them appear to be drawn in super speed.
